Happy Spring!

I am GIVING AWAY A FREE Alchemy of the Heart session in honor of the Spring Equinox, yay!

Well...this is also also in honor of my heart really wanting to see some spring flowers while I am in snowy Ithaca.

Yay again!

How to Qualify~Some Airy Guidelines

  • Post a picture on my Facebook page: Share a image or two that you have captured of a spring flower that has graced your presence. That means spring-ish walk is mandatory. As for those of you all who do not live in the more temperate Southern regions, older photos count too, but, a nice walk also seems mandatory ;)

  • Tell me how it inspires you in a comment on your photo. The inspiration can be a single word, a paragraph, a color, you name it. I am totally into abstract association.

  • Share with a friend via Facebook (if that jives with you).

Photo Guide~ from the heart wildly appreciated.

As for your images, I am talking about those moments when your breathe is taken away by the sheer surprise of fantastic-ness bursting forth in color and spirit!

Or, if you are less dramatic than a I am, keep it simple and take a photo of a pretty flower that makes you smile.

Camera phone images very welcome. AKA... It doesn't have to be super duper high quality photography-just an image inspired by the beauty of spring!

You may have to "like" this page to share an image, I am not sure...but, more likes are loved either way!

This will be a week about a week long contest. I will have a magical committee of folks to help me decide the winner. This will include my mother, though, she doesn't know it yet.

Share the jewels of spring as they emerge from the soft and fertile ground of the earth and bedazzle (yup, bedazzle) the first breath of trees!

You are Beautiful

I drove the wrong way down highway 13 and so I took the first turn available. I ended up in Sapsucker woods, a place I have hoped to volunteer my time with birds in an Ornithology lab. Though, this was my first time here ever. I drove myself there, unaware.

I went with it.

I drove around for a short while admiring the woods...still not sure why I was there. It was cold and drizzling. I had a date with a friend soon, so I did not want to fall into exploring.

I pulled into a turn about in a strange caddy corner after a stop sign. I stopped, put my car in reverse, and looked up.

Directly above me was this sign.

I said, "holy shit", parked my car, got out and took a picture.

If there is one thing I have learned in all this time alone recently, It's that I swear out loud to myself when in awe. It's happened over three times in the past month.

Life is amazing. All you have to do is stop, take a moment to ground, listen, and little gifts will pop up left and right. Or, in front of you.

I love public art and reminders such as this one: We are all beautiful.

Alchemy of the Heart ~ Spiritual Aromatherapy

So, I have a confession....well, it's something some already know...but...it's also not something I have enjoyed writing about since it's a little tender to touch upon.

I have not been able to practice massage since I moved here...though, applied for my New York state massage therapy license back in July of 2012. But, as with many things in life that seem to be obstacles, this time has actually strengthened aspects of myself, it has helped me to make my work more whole.

Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You...

"Letting go of what no longer serves you..." This has been such a theme over the past few months. If you think about it, the darkness of winter reflects our natural rhythm physical energy, and emotional energy.

It leaves lots of space for us to stare the deeper, potentially more curmudgeonly aspects of ourselves. We can't always be on our best behavior, right? Where would the lessons be in life if we were?

With this upcoming New Moon in Pisces, I think feel this must be a powerful time to make good with this concept of "letting go of what no longer serves you".

Pisces is deep and emotional, yet, also creative, and artistic. The energy of this "archetype" harnesses a duplicitous relationship of dark and light; Inward depth fueling outward creation.

It is a time for inspiration, creation, dream manifestation, and affirmations.

Soon, also enters the seasonal re-birth of spring and therefore, ourselves; inside and out.

Spring!

Spring, for most, freshens the heart, spirit, mind, body, and soul. You don't have to simply rely on the rhythm of the sunshine and the seasons to provoke some energy.

Actually, I think it is quite healthy to prepare yourself for the swift changes that can often come with spring. Sometimes in Kentucky, I feel like Spring just happens so fast. From what I hear in Ithaca, it is similar, yet more drastic.

It may be a good time to begin to make some extra efforts to warm up your body.

Warming Up with Herbs and Spices such as Cardamom and Ginger...

If you are feeling a little low on energy, you can begin by adding some spice to your food. Some herbs that you may consider adding into your diet are ginger, cayenne, cardamom, or turmeric. You can add any of them to your tea, pouridges, or more savory meals. Though these spices are generally considered to be more savory, cayenne, and ginger can be delightful in a tea!

Journal Your Life Gracefully from Winter to Spring

Journal With Plant Allies and Let Go of What No Longer Serves You This Weekend.

If you have read other entries on my blog, you will have likely come across many writings about seasonal living, as it deeply resonates with me philosophically.

That said, I do not consider myself a wildly earthen woman. I am more like a girl who has lived in small cities that are close to nature, who somehow developed a deep connection and love for the forest, animals, insects, and the earth.

Sun bright, winter trees, Deleware. N Sandhu
When I delve into a seasonal brain storm of earth based metaphors, I feel like kid of like a kid in a candy shop, or a builder in a hardware store, or a designer passing by the paint chip isle. There is an irresistible urge to dive in…a myriad of inspiration and direction…probably to the point of overkill, but, whatever.

I can’t help it. I consider it the root of my practice as an herbalist, aromatherapist, and healer. The deeper I go into the world of plant medicine, and spiritual healing, the closer I feel to nature...

Even if I am not outside everyday, I realize that I am just a minute sack of cells in this giant macrocosm of an earth.

Well…I think we are all more than that, but, my point is, we work together as one organism. We eat, we sleep, we procreate, we pass on. Life feeds on life.

We are blessed with waters that sustain us, the rivers are akin to the veins of the earth.

Those same elements of nourishment, can flood our streets, and tear us down when the weather is harsh and angry. This is so much larger than our concept of life....
